History of the Rushford Historical Society
The Rushford Historical Society was formed shortly after the sesquicentennial in 1958. Several years later the Museum was obtained from the Town of Rushford. The building was originally a store built circa. 1850. Through the years several merchants were in the building. Around the turn of the century it became the Town Hall and Fire Department. It was used in this capacity until 1950 when the new Town Hall was built. After setting for a few years it was turned over to the Historical Society. Much work went into making a display of local history. In 2003 it was discovered the rear cement wall had caved in and was letting the building collapse. Only one contractor would consider the job and he brought the building back to better condition than it had been for years. Also eave troughs were added to insure we didn't face the same problem again in the future. Today we see the results of much hard work and dedication.
